HAK Voitsberg helps: 500 kg groceries collected for the needy!

Voitsberg, Österreich - In Voitsberg, an impressive sign of solidarity was recently set. Schoolchildren of the 2CA of the HAK Voitsberg have compiled 500 kilograms of food for people affected by poverty in the Voitsberg district as part of an exemplary collection. This initiative was launched by teacher Martina Schwarz in cooperation with the “Aktion Herz” of the Youngcaritas. The food collected have a value of around 2,000 euros and are now made available to the needy in the region. My district reports that the collection takes place at several locations, including the savings branches at the WEZ and in Bärnbach and Ligist.

Not only impresses the amount of food donated, the positive response of the passers -by also speaks for itself. Many were delighted with the commitment of the young people and were willing to give up food donations. The donations collected go directly to the advice center to secure the existence of Caritas, which works to help people in need in the region. However, this campaign not only has a practical benefit, but also promotes social learning among the students. Empathy, responsibility and social coexistence were playfully integrated into everyday life.

Action Heart and the importance of food aid

The "Action Herz" is an important project that was launched in Styria to support people in need. Poverty has increased in the region, especially in recent times, and many Styrians are under pressure to cover their daily life needs. Caritas-Styria informs that more and more people in social institutions are looking for help. Groups in particular are people with low incomes that are increasingly dependent on support.

Last year, the “Heart” Aktion Heart and other goods worth over 100,000 euros were spent on people at risk of poverty. Through cooperation with various social partners, including Spar and Caritas, the collected goods are distributed free of charge. It is gratifying to see that around 50 savings markets in Styria take part in this important project and thus relieve the need for many people.
