With an exciting competition in the heart of Southeast Styria, the students of the Polytechnic School Feldbach got a great second place at the state competition in Mureck for the first time in Mureck in Mureck. The competition, which was initiated by Astrid Rathkolb, devoted itself to the colorful and traditional theme of the "Día de los Muertos" (day of the dead), a celebration that is deeply rooted in the cultures of Mexico.
A total of six five teams from various polytechnic schools, including Graz, Hartberg, Mureck and Feldbach, competed against each other. The pupils had a total of 180 minutes to demonstrate their creative skills in the field of hairstyling, floristry, visagistics and Nailart. It was an impressive pallet: from the braided hairstyle and a dead mask to a magnificent flower wreath or flower tire as well as a detailed nail design. The Día de los Muertos not only received great attention from us, but also internationally. An important celebration for the Día de Muertos in the Museum of Latin American Art (Molaa) took place in Long Beach, which was under the motto "Hecho Con Amor/Made with Love". This event celebrated life through art, dance and kitchen and was designed as a homage to Mexican culture. This tradition, which has its roots in the cultures of the Aztecs and Toltecs, does not consider death as a mourning case, but as a natural phase of life. During the celebrations that take place from October 31 to November 2, the dead temporarily return to Earth, which illustrates the strong connection to the community.
an international festival of living and dead
As part of the Molaa Festival, the activities were diverse and included exhibitions and a Catrina costume competition that was supported with prices from La Opera and Hispanics for La Opera. The participant Denise Guzman honored her late grandmother with a costume, inspired by the colors of the San Francisco 49ers. Various craft stands that offered handmade goods also attracted visitors and created a happy atmosphere.
The meaning of the Día de los Muertos is also reflected in the creative work with children who were able to experience facial painting and art workshops at the festival, while dance performances round off the colorful supporting program.
In summary, it can be said that the celebrations for the Día de Los Muertos, whether in Southeast Styria or California, focus on the appreciation for the deceased relatives in the focus and cultures. By celebrating the living communities with the memories of their deceased, culture remains alive and will be passed on to future generations. For more details you can report on Meinbezirk , Los Angeles Times and National Geographic Read.
