A look over the borders

The initiative in Austria is taking a large current trend: boards that have been active in Germany for over 30 years are set by a strong sign against food waste. There, too, the number of people who regularly use plates has risen sharply in recent years. Reasons such as the Corona pandemic, inflation and the Ukrainklieg have led to an increase in the needy, reports Deutschlandfunk Kultur .

of around 11 million tons of food waste in Germany, many products are still edible. Despite the efforts, many tables are faced with a decline in food donations, which presents them with challenges. The volunteers not only provide important support in the distribution, but also see themselves as a social contact for those who are in need.

With the opening of the new issue in Scheifling, the Red Cross and Hitradio Ö3 again show how important it is to become active against poverty and to strengthen social cohesion. The hope is that many people will continue to benefit from this offer in the future. Further information is available from Ö3 under 0800 600 600.
