Scotty in the race: Pets of the year saves life!

In the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld region, a lot is happening, and the current news shows that the community is alive and active here. An exciting event is already in full swing: Fressnapf is looking for the pet of the year until July 13th. A particularly courageous candidate is Scotty, a small Münsterländer who saved his owner's life. This action, which is supported by the Bündnis Mensch & Animal Foundation, aims to put the needs of pets into the spotlight and to promote a relaxed human-animal relationship. "Pet of the year" not only conveys information about species -appropriate attitude, but also enables to get to know animals from a new perspective, according to the foundation.

But there is also a lot to report apart from the animal heroicism. The “Meindämzirk-Meinwirt” campaign celebrates the taverns and their important role in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district. She appreciates the landlords and the loyal guests who call up these central places of social life. The aim of the campaign is to keep the tradition of the taverns alive and to strengthen the community.

innovative solutions for the community

Another positive aspect is the introduction of a self -sufficient flood warning system in the municipality of Lafnitz. This system is not only able to warn of flooding in time, but also works in emergencies such as blackouts. This takes an important step to minimize damage in the region and to offer citizens more security.

The "House of Women" in St. Johann is also enjoying new developments: the capacity has doubled by adapting the former Benedictine monastery St. Gabriel. Inhabited by nuns since 2008, the monastery was renovated in 2024. In this inspiring environment, the Maria 2.0 Styria initiative started in early October. This movement is committed to the equivalence of women and men in the Catholic Church and would like to make fundamental changes within the institution.

art and commitment to a change

The first action of Maria 2.0 - an exhibition entitled "Stay - Complete - Change" - can be seen in the House of Women until the end of the year. Here text boards are presented by women who address their stunnedness about dealing with sexual abuse in the church. At the event, Brigitte Knell from Maria 2.0 emphasized the importance of denouncing injustices and staying in the church at the same time. Lydia Lieskonig, the chairwoman of the Styrian Catholic Women's Movement (KfB), confirmed the desire for a sibling connection in faith.

The initiative sends a woman out of me under the motto "And God made me!" Signals for a fairer church and invites everyone interested to find out about the contact information from Lisbeth Scherr and Lydia Lieskonig.

The developments and initiatives in Hartberg-Fürstenfeld are a sign of the liveliness and cohesion of the community. From animal dogs to social and cultural engagements - there is really a lot going on here!
