Wels-Debakel on Brombachsee: Police shoots animal-animal rights activists outraged!

Brombachsee, Deutschland - Am Brombachsee in northern Bavaria caused an excitement: a two -meter -long catfish attacked several swimmers and left bite wounds. This happened in parallel to the "Burning Beach" festival, which prompted the police to classify the fish as a security risk. A policeman then shot the animal three times, which was hit, but was not killed immediately. Later the injured catfish was taken out of the water by an angler. This is reported by the FAZ

animal rights activist Jana Hoger from Peta criticized the killing of the catfish as a violation of the Animal Welfare Act. In her opinion, there was no reasonable reason for this. Alternatives such as barriers or warning signs would have been possible. She emphasizes that the aggressive behavior of the catfish during the spawning period is typical of the type and that it is part of the ecosystem. The animal welfare organization plans a criminal complaint against the police officer and the angler. The restaurateur, which prepares the catfish for 22.50 euros per serving, is also involved in the discussion, since his work is also considered unethical. According to animal protection association , the legal text protects animals differently, whereby most of the provisions focus on vertebrates. Animal welfare injuries can be punished both according to the Animal Welfare Act and as property damage, but it remains unclear how they can be implemented in specific cases like this.

It remains to be seen how the matter develops and what legal steps PETA will take. In the meantime, the catfish is served in the location and cannot be denied its "origin" - an unfortunate irony in the debate about animal welfare and human behavior.
