Schleißheim and Fischlham: secure fertile soils for the future!

In today's world, the topic of floors is becoming increasingly important, especially if you look at the challenges of nutritional safety and climate change. The “Future Boden” project in the municipalities of Schleißheim and Fischlham aims to raise awareness of the valuable resource soil. Meinverkirk reports that floors not only store carbon dioxide and also produce food, but also offer habitat for a variety of animals and plants. The services of floors are often overlooked when evaluating land, which is why this project sets an important sign in the region.

Schleißheim and Fischlham were selected as pilot communities to test the digital tool bbase. This innovative tool uses interactive cards to make the various floors visible, for example with regard to biodiversity and food supply. The project manager, Julia Forster, emphasizes the essential connection between human activities and soil resource. With the support of a working group that is made up of various organizations and municipalities, the development of bbasis is promoted.

technological innovations in agriculture

In parallel to the solution -oriented steps in Schleißheim and Fischlham, there are also exciting developments in agricultural research. As part of the "Cognac" project, led by several Fraunhofer Institutes, data-driven technologies are developed to support farmers in efficient and sustainable production. Fraunhofer reports on a complex, networked ecosystem made of drones and robot-based sensor systems that are used for the monitoring of plant and soil conditions. Such technical solutions are crucial to meet the challenges of modern agriculture.

Digitization plays an increasingly central role in sustainable agriculture, as the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) emphasizes. Dbu indicates that healthy soils are essential for our livelihood. On the occasion of the World Floor Day on December 5th, the importance of agriculture will be emphasized again because it has a key role in dealing with soils. Innovative approaches such as the development of Smartcloudfarming and the tool Soileye, which enables soil analysis using satellites, show what progress has already been made. Devices that measure the water and nitrogen balance of plants without damaging them were also developed

A look into the future

The commitment of communities such as Schleißheim and Fischlham as well as the advanced technological developments in agriculture ensure that the resources of our planet are not only protected, but also used sustainably. The requirement of the hour is: to have a good knack for the floor. This is the only way we can expect fertile harvest in the future and serve the needs of a growing population.
