New fire brigade divers: heroism under water in Upper Austria!

in Ried, the new fire brigade divers proudly return from their first training weeks to the ranks of the emergency services. At diving point 4, a total of 23 diving candidates were congratulated on July 3, 2025 in a solemn ceremony to successfully conclude their course. Among the new divers, Niklas Clemens Nussbaumer from TG St. Peter am Hart, Sebastian Hobl from TG Vöcklabruck, Nico Feichtinger from TG Mondsee and Gregor Müller from TG Seewalchen am Attersee, which are now up to a depth of 20 meters, such as the VB Oölfv reported.

The training as a fire -fighting diver who takes two years includes not only exercise diving and theoretical units, but also training as a lifeguard. In order to prove their suitability for diving, the candidates must also go through a demanding selection, which checks both swimmer and ABC freely diver skills. The newly trained fire brigade divers will complete further training in the future to increase their depth of operations and to be even better prepared for the challenges.

The way to the fire brigade diver

A career as a fire brigade diver is not only an exciting, but also a risky matter. In Germany, the first official diving group was founded at the Duisburg fire brigade in the 1960s, and there are now numerous groups whose size varies regionally, as test heroes . Fire brigade divers are not only responsible for the rescue of people and animals, but also for the rescue of murder weapons and the control of boats. Their tasks are diverse, they have to be constantly ready for use and on average in just two to ten minutes.

The training takes place in several stages. The first stage covers various aspects, from device science to emergency measures, and includes practical dives under different conditions. In the second stage, the knowledge is deepened, and when the end is successful, divers can use special technical tools in the water. After completing these levels, the fire brigade divers are open to numerous further training opportunities, including the functions of fire brigade teachers or diving group leaders.

Setting up a new diving relay

The solemn "Neptune baptism" of the new fire brigade divers is a very special moment to officially add the graduates to the group of divers. The diving instructors Thomas Manahl, Jonathan Hansel, Wolfgang Brühwasser and Markus Penteker took care of the training intensively during the course. It remains to be seen how the new diving relay will deal under operating conditions. Use on lakes, rivers or even in port areas could soon become a reality for the new divers, which is an exciting challenge for them.

The training of fire brigade divers is complex and requires both physical fitness and intellectual stability. You have to take part in follow -up examinations and exercise dives to maintain your license. The demands on the diving suitability are high-the G31 report, which includes several medical tests, is a must for the prospective fire brigade divers.

With these new divers, diving base 4 in Ried is a competent team at the side that not only ensures the security of the citizens, but can also act decisively in critical situations. Further exciting missions will certainly not be long in coming!
