Pilgrims of hope: Weigersdorf celebrates the holy year 2025!

The branch church Weigersdorf focuses on a very special event in 2025: the Holy Year "Pilgrims of Hope". This initiative of Pope Francis, who reached its peak on July 12, 2025, is celebrated not only in Rome, but also in Weigersdorf in Ried in the Traunkreis. For the first time, a sacred year was proclaimed in 1300, and since then they have been taking place every 25 years. The church in Weigersdorf, which is consecrated to St. James to the older one, will play a central role in this because Jakobus is the patron saint of pilgrims.

The preparations are already in full swing. On January 6, 2025, the Holy Year will be opened with an Agape. On April 20, there will be a resurrection ceremony, followed by a Markus fair on April 25th. A central service will then be celebrated on July 20 at 9:30 a.m. and broadcast live in ORF 2 and in ZDF.
