Gravel bike accident in Hallstatt: German seriously injured!

Hallstatt, Österreich - A serious accident occurred on June 24, 2025 during a gravel bike tour in Hallstatt. A 34-year-old German fell around 9 a.m. in the early morning when he was traveling from Gosau via the Roßalm towards Hallstatt. The accident took place in the area of the transitionalm, where the man lost control of his front wheel due to the steep and strongly witty forest road and fell on the left hip.

The consequences of the fall were serious: the injured biker could not get up independently due to severe pain and the inability to burden his left leg. Fortunately, a 69-year-old mountain biker from the Vöcklabruck district came to his aid and provided first aid before alerting the rescue workers. This selfless commitment helps to illustrate how important first aid knowledge of cycling in the mountains is.

emergency services on site

The fast -moved rescue measures included three members of the Hallstatt mountain rescue and an official from the Alpine police Gmunden. The emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 14 landed nearby to take the injured to a hospital as quickly as possible. The emergency services carried the 34-year-old about 200 meters to the helicopter, who finally flew to the Salzkammergutkrinikum Bad Ischl, where he could be taken care of.

The incident once again shows how important it is to take appropriate precautions before you go into the mountains. Unexpected situations can occur, especially when it comes to mountain biking. It is therefore advisable to regularly take part in first aid courses in order to be prepared for all eventualities. The Red Cross and many alpine club sections offer such courses that are specially tailored to emergency situations in the mountain range. This can save lives in an emergency and significantly improve the help, while waiting for rescue, which can sometimes take hours in remote regions.

In order to be able to react optimally in an emergency, bikers should always carry a well-equipped first aid set. These include wound -fast associations, elastic tie, gloves and a rescue blanket. In addition, it is important to know the basic steps in the event of a mountain accident: assess the situation, make the emergency call and look after the injured person until help arrives. Information on these topics and the correct handling of emergency situations can also be found in auxiliary materials of the Alpenverein.

We wish the injured cyclist a quick and complete recovery.
