Childcare in Grieskirchen: strong growth of the places!

In the district of Grieskirchen, a lot is happening in the field of childcare. The range of facilities was extended in the kindergarten year 2024/2025. According to meinzirk.at , a total of 2,633 groups are now being looked after around the clock, operated by 543 committed employees. A remarkable increase of 28.7 percent in the care according to the VIF criteria shows that more and more parents use the offers. The number went from 641 in the previous year to 722 children.

With regard to the care rate, there is a mixed picture. The quota is 25.1 percent, especially for those under the age of three, which still leaves room for improvement. In comparison, the 3- to 5-year-old children enjoy almost consistent care of 95.9 percent. These figures show that demand is high, even if there is still a need for optimization in the smallest.

spirit of optimism for construction projects

At the moment, 18 construction projects in the field of children's education and support are in implementation, with a total budget of almost 20 million euros. Around 4.5 million euros of this will flow into nine crawling projects, while around 15 million euros are invested in nine kindergarten projects. The educational department of the state of Upper Austria is committed and supports these projects with a funding of around 7.4 million euros.

The tips.at emphasizes that the quality and availability of care places depends heavily on the individual municipalities. In a current survey, 338 municipalities have provided their childcare data, but there are no information from certain communities such as Heiligenberg and Meggenhofen. This can lead to distortions in the overall assessment.

The challenge of the Barcelona goals

The numbers on the so-called Barcelona goals are particularly interesting, which determine that a third of the under-three year olds and 96 percent of three to six-year access to childcare places. Unfortunately, the goal for the little ones is missed in the Grieskirchen district with a childcare rate of only 24.8 percent. For the larger children, it looks a little better at 94.6 percent, but also remains behind the specifications.

The Chamber of Labor (AK) Upper Austria has created a comprehensive analysis that has existed for 25 years and is supplemented by an interactive childcare atlas. Like ots.at , there are only 14 out of 33 municipalities (42.4%), which are classified in the highest category 1a. Municipalities such as Bad Schallerbach, Grieskirchen and St. Georgen have done a particularly good job here and offer good conditions for working parents.

Overall, a movement in Grieskirchen shows a movement in the right direction. Despite the existing challenges, there is hope that the ongoing projects and the support of the country will make even better support for all children. It remains to be seen how quickly these improvements will also be visible in the numbers of the care rates.
