Waidhofner farmers: enthusiastic excursion to Vienna and Korneuburg!
Waidhofen an der Thaya, Österreich - On July 9, 2025, the association "The Farmers and Women in Rural Area" organized a lively one -day trip in the Waidhofen/Thaya district. The participants met under bright sunshine to explore the region together and collect new impressions. This initiative shows the high importance of the farmers and their commitment to the community that goes far beyond the field. The high number of registrations that led to three dates speaks for the great acceptance and motivation within the association.
The first stop on the excursion was the RWA headquarters in Korneuburg. There the participants were warmly welcomed with fragrant coffee and fresh plunder pastries. The headquarters, which extends over a 15 hectare area, offered visitors interesting insights into different areas of agriculture and agricultural processing. Afterwards we went to Vienna to the Porcelain Manufaktur Augarten, where a tour guide gave exciting information about the production of the fine porcelain pieces.
Experience insights into the production and regionality
The visit to the manufactory was not only instructive, but also a sign of the connection between tradition and modernity. In addition to the manufactory, the participants visited the City Farm, an adventure garden that has planted vegetable rates with all year round. Despite the high temperatures, the participants were enthusiastic about the impressions they could collect.
The excursion is part of the association's mission, which has been committed to the concerns of the farmers since its foundation in spring 2014. The members, many of them young women, are not only committed to the local topics, but also for further training and exchange of new ideas. The motto "From the region, for the region!" underlines the intention of strengthening the community and preserving traditions while you are breaking new ground.
The role of women in agriculture
Women play an increasingly important role in agriculture. According to the Thünen Institute, they provide a third of the workforce in this area, often as employees. Despite their commitment, their contributions are often invisible, and representative positions are still dominated by men. Events such as this excursion, which promotes the visibility and commitment of the farmers, are all the more important, which often lead smaller, ecologically managed farms and increasingly take responsibility for themselves and their businesses.
Ulrike Wurz, the Waidhofner area farmer, was positive about the exchange during the excursion and the new impressions that the participants could take home with them. A traditional Heuriger was visited for the crowning glory, where the group ended the day in a convivial atmosphere.
The excursion of the Waidhofner farmers once again illustrates how important community commitment and the exchange are in rural areas. The women show that they can also bring a breath of fresh air and new ideas in agriculture - a valuable enrichment for the village communities.
