Krems-Land triumphs: five wineries among the best in Austria!
The Salon, Austria's hardest wine competition, also caused excitement this year. On July 16, 2025, the best 275 wines in the country were presented in a festive setting, including five outstanding wineries from the Krems-Land district. With this, Krems-Land leads the list of winners and leaves Hollabrunn and Neusiedl am See behind, each of which has three winners. MeinDärzirk reports that this award is a clear sign of the high quality of the wines from this region.
The excellent wineries from Krems-Land are:
- Weingut Reithmaier, Gobelsburg: 2024 Lower Austria Rosé Zweigelt "Cavallo" (category: Rosé)
- Winery Haimerl, Gobelsburg: 2023 Kamptal DAC Riesling Ried Haid Gobelsburg (category: Kamptal DAC)

variety of wines and DAC quality
A total of 275 wines were included in the following categories: 162 come from Lower Austria, 65 from Burgenland, 36 from Styria, 9 from Vienna and 3 from the mountain country. Almost 60% of the wines are DAC wines-a seal of quality that indicates the origin and unique character of the wines. DAC stands for "Districtus Austriae Controllatus", a regulation that was introduced in the 1990s to emphasize the identity and unmistakability of Austrian wines. As explained in the glossary , this system corresponds to the French AOP.
The importance of high -quality, sustainably produced wines should not be underestimated. Chris Yorke, Managing Director of Austria Wein Marketing GmbH (ÖWM), emphasizes that almost half of the excellent wines (132 out of 275) come from environmentally conscious wineries that rely on sustainable growing methods. This ranges from biological to biodynamic wines that are not only for the environment, but also for the palate of our wine lovers. Vinaria continues that the combination of tradition and modern Viticulture techniques could pave the way for a successful future of the Austrian wine industry.
award ceremony in the Palais Lower Austria
The award ceremony took place in the atmospheric Palais Lower Austria, where the winning wines were ceremoniously tasted and honored. At a time when wine production is becoming increasingly environmentally friendly, the Austrian winemakers show that tradition and innovation can be easily combined. The salon has developed into a significant competition over the years and has been one of the hottest events in the wine world for more than 35 years.
With a clear focus on quality and sustainability, the Austrian wines position themselves not only in Germany, but also increasingly in international markets. The next goal should be to inspire even more wine lovers for the multifaceted world of Austrian wines.
