Rector Kopeinig celebrates 60 years of priest: a life for faith!

Völkermarkt, Österreich - In Tainach, the life's work is celebrated by Rector Josef Kopeinig, who heads the Bildungshaus Sodalitas. The 84-year-old, who was ordained a priest on July 4, 1965 in Klagenfurt, has tirelessly campaigned for education and well-being in the past six decades. "It is the greatest gift of my life", so Kopeinig about his calling.

Already at the tender age of ten he had the desire to become a priest. In 1968 he joined the Sodalitas educational center, which was still empty. At that time there was neither a program nor staff, but today the house is a pulsating educational center with around 600 own and guest events per year, which are offered in both national languages. Kopeinig, who also headed the Slovenian Mission Chancellery in Klagenfurt until the previous year, emphasizes the importance of a lively community of faith in which critical and seeking people are welcome.

A look at Kopeinig's commitment

For copies, listening and dialogue are basic elements of his priestly service. The encounters with sick and dying in particular shape his time as a priest. He sees the topic of lacking priests as serious concern and is convinced that lay people should also speak authentically about their beliefs. "Faith has to grow with people," is his conviction.

his 60th priesthood celebration celebrates Kopeinig modestly. Because of his health constitution and the abundance of tasks, he sees no reason. He sees every Holy Mass as a thank you fair in which he can thank the Lord for his fulfilling life.
