Am Egelsee in Spittal an der Drau is doing something exciting! The idyllic moor lake, which lies on the height back of the Hochgosch and is surrounded by valuable moor habitats, is the focus of an important project for ecological renewal. The bridges that are already in need of renovation must be replaced, and the work will be started in July 2025, which should be completed by summer 2026. This is reported by the Stadt Spittal an der Drau .
Mayor Gerhard Köfer underlines the role of Lake Egel as an important local recreation area for the population. Vice mayor Angelika Hinteregger particularly emphasizes the protection of the natural habitat and the function of the moor as a vital carbon speech. This project, entitled "Moor Protection Egelsee - Visitor steering by dismantling and adapting the bracket systems", will not only improve the ecological state of the area but also optimize visitor steering.
visitor steering and nature conservation -friendly renewal
The project provides for existing bridges and harmful tramps that claimed the moor. Instead, new entrances are created in less sensitive areas. Among them is an access bridge to pilots that will be equipped with a railing, as well as an information area outside the bog. These measures have already been approved by water and nature conservation, as the State government of Carinthia
The project is fully financed from EU funds, as part of the "Investments for the Conservation, Restoration and Improvement of the Natural Heritage" initiative. Here the State Councilor Sara Schaar is happy about the 100%funding for the nature conservation measures on Lake Egelsee, an ecologically valuable and sensitive habitat in Carinthia. With total costs of over 330,000 euros, the Moser company will implement the project, accompanied by experts from E.C.O. Institute for Ecology and the Urban & Glatz civil engineering company M.B.H.
information event at the Gasthof Lug in the country
For all interested parties, on July 3, 2025, there will be an information event that is opened by Vice Mayor Angelika Hinteregger. Project manager Susanne Glatz-Jorde from E.C.O. Institute of Ecology will present the details about the project. Questions from the audience are expressly welcome, and the event will end up in the country with a social end in the Gasthof Lug.
This initiative not only ensures the preservation of the moor area, but also strengthens the attractiveness of the Egelsee as the goal for those seeking relaxation. The new footbridges will not only offer attractive access to the lake, but also integrate seating and create an information and arrival place. So the Egelsee becomes a place where nature and environmental protection can go hand in hand. With a good hand for nature conservation and a well thought -out visitor steering, there is really something!
