Carinthian school furniture for Tapolca: solidarity across borders!

A very special joint project in Carinthia has the goal of supporting Hungarian students: inside Tapolca. At the initiative of Ewald Grollitsch, a committed member of the IPA Carinthia and friend of the Hungarian colleague Laszlo Sandor, a collection campaign for urgently needed school furniture is carried out. The school in Tapolca has to struggle with badly damaged tables and armchairs, which makes classes significantly more difficult. A personal call from Sandor gave a real auxiliary impulse that brought together numerous schools and school community associations in the region. As reported by the Gailtal-Journal, the MS Lesachtal, MS Hermagor, Villach, Lurnfeld and St. Veit Möbel have provided them.

A total of 147 tables, 192 chairs and 41 swivel armchairs come together - an impressive amount that shows how strong the cohesion is in the region. Hungarian fathers, organized by the school's parents' association in Tapolca, have actively helped to load the furniture. The campaign not only stands for concrete help, but also for solidarity lived between Austria and Hungary. Ewald Grollitsch also received a certificate of honor from the Hungarian community of Tapolca for his merits, which underlines the value of his commitment.

sustainability in focus

Another aspect of the action is sustainability. The social enterprise passionate actively deals with the topic of reuse of furniture and is looking for permanent alternatives to bulky waste. Around 350 discarded school furniture from Austria is currently available for placement. Harald Prokscha, coordinator of the organization, describes the challenge of reconciling the needs of discounts and customers. On average, they mediate 10,000 to 20,000 pieces of furniture annually, with the aim of increasing the number to one million. According to Bauwende News, the continued use of furniture has an enormously positive impact on the environmental balance: Over 90 percent CO2 savings are achieved.

This initiative shows that it is quite possible to combine social and ecological concerns. The donated pieces of furniture are not only a sign of helpfulness, but also contribute to reducing waste. At a time when sustainability is becoming increasingly important, this is a nice step in the right direction.
