Threats in schools: Oberwart in alarm state - what now?
In Burgenland, threats against schools continue to ensure concerned parents and students. A current incident in Oberwart has shown how serious such disorders need to be taken. At the beginning of February 2023 there was an alarming threatening posting that announced a killing spree on the HBLA. The HAK, the HBLA and the bilingual high school then closed its doors for several days and thus ensured a quick reaction to ensure the safety of the students. During the investigation it turned out that two 15-year-olds were responsible for the threat. They admitted that they were not meant seriously, which the police did not mitigate. According to bvz.at, the girls could be prosecuted because they have been punished to date.
The situation in Oberwart is not isolated. In March 2023, several schools in the Neusiedl am See district were taken into account by anonymous threats. Among other things, the HAK/HAS, the Pannoneum as well as the high school and the sports middle school had to close on March 25. A safety -relevant note in the Pannoneum, supplemented by an ominous lubrication, ensured great concern among educational institutions. These days, around 3,000 students and numerous teachers were affected and had to switch to homeschooling. On April 29, 2023, there was another incident that forced the school lines to a short -term distance learning.

The police made it clear that in these cases there was never a real danger in these cases, which the worries of many parents alleviated. Nevertheless, the appeal remains not to take such threats lightly. The investigation also shows that young people in Austria from the age of 14 are more punishable, which means that it cannot be acted more freely here. One cannot emphasize enough that such anonymous threats are not a cavalier offense. Prison punishment of up to three years threaten those who do not adhere to the rules, according to the police.
On the recent events in Eisenstadt, which experienced a bomb threat on May 26, 2023, one can add that after an evacuation, the students were luckily accommodated in the all -sports center and that no dangerous objects were found. The incidents are increasing and showing how sensitive the topic is. Not only school and parents, the police are also required, such as on June 5, 2023, as primary schools in Frauenkirchen, despite a security -relevant information under police protection.
A call to vigilance
parents and teachers are required to look closely in this special time. Continuous dialogue and education are important tools to clarify children that such dangerous “jokes” can have serious consequences. The young generation's sense of responsibility is being tested. Only through cooperation between schools, parents and the police can a safe environment be guaranteed for our children. The headmistress of the Pannoneum has already asked for support in identifying the causes, which shows that every serious note is required here.
It remains to be hoped that such incidents will soon belong to the past and that schools are again places of learning and joy. Until then, the police will continue to be present to ensure the security of everyone.
