First cool zone in Margareten: Church offers heat yield!

Margareten, Österreich - The summer heat has clearly moved in and many people are looking for a cool retreat. The parish of St. Josef in Margareten will offer a refreshing solution from Tuesday, July 1st. Like Meinzirk.at reports, the church is transformed into a "cool zone", which enables the residents to enjoy relaxed minutes during the hot summer. The parish is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., only on Thursday the times are limited. Admission is free and the initiative will continue until August 31st.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Margaret district and the parish, under the direction of district manager Michael Luxenberger. Pastor Matthias Beck welcomes the project and refers to the importance of shelters by quoting Isaiah 4,6, who speaks of a protective place. This offer is particularly valuable at a time when cool retreat in the dense development of Margareten.

heat causes problems

The summer months in Austria are getting hotter, which according to katholisch.at can be attributed to climate change. Open churches are increasingly acting as valuable contact points for heat -plagued people. In many churches, the interior temperatures are 10 to 15 degrees below the outside temperatures. The Gurker Dom is particularly well known for this, whose crypt even reaches temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees. Such cool retreats are becoming increasingly in demand while the summer heat increases.

The Archdiocese of Vienna has also started initiatives to offer people a "vacation for the soul" experience, including online impulses for church visits. In addition, many parishes in Vienna and Lower Austria have opened their gardens and courtyards to offer people a place of the "summer freshness in the parish garden".

climate protection and humanity

Society is increasingly faced with heat -related challenges. As the EKD summarizes in a call, municipalities and facilities should increasingly offer protection against heat. Churches are often the coolest places far and wide, even without cooling technology. The goal is clear: to protect people from the health risks of heat, which also includes climate protection. The open church not only contributes to cooling, but also promotes humanity, especially for people in need.

As part of the latest initiatives, specific measures for the prevention of heat -related health risks were also introduced. Streetwork teams are active to distribute water, sunscreen and headgear to protect the population from the heat.

With the opening of the "Cool Zone" in St. Josef, the parish goes into another piece to the needs of its community. It remains to be seen how many people will make use of this offer, but one thing is certain: the search for cooling is of central importance for many people in the coming hot summer weeks.
