Celebration of musical masterpieces: Schönberg & Berio Day in Vienna!

Arnold Schönberg Center, Zaunergasse 1-3, 1030 Wien, Österreich - A very special musical day is imminent! On July 25, 2025, the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna to the setting of the "Schönberg & Berio Day". On this day we celebrate the 100th birthday of the renowned composer Luciano Berio, whose influence on music history is undeniable.

The organization of the event lies with the European Union Youth Orchestra (Euyo) , which comes up with a multifaceted program. Numerous works are presented on four different stages that appreciate the creative creation of Berio and colleagues such as Arnold Schönberg and Igor Stravinsky.

The day starts at 12:30 p.m. in the Arnold Schönberg Center with Berio's "Opus Number Zoo", followed by Schönberg's "Presto" and Stravinsky's "pastoral". At 2:00 p.m. the Italian cultural institute continues with selected pieces from the "34 Duetti" of Berio and other compositions. From 4:30 p.m. the trio of Anton Reicha and works by Mozart and Schönberg will be heard in the Leopold Museum.

The grandiose final awaits visitors at 6:30 p.m. at the Northwest Railway station, where, among other things, Berio's "Call for Brass quintet" and Ligetis "Six Bagatelles" are on the program. If you are interested in good music, you should not miss this day: admission is free!

Luciano Berio, who lived from 1925 to 2003, is considered one of the key figures in the post -war savant guard. His compositional work, which is strongly shaped by serial processes and experiments with the human voice, leaves a lasting legacy in music history. Berio developed an unmistakable musical language in the 1950s, in which he combined different influences, including folk materials and electronic music. He worked closely with large literary personalities such as Italo Calvino and thus influenced not only the music world, but also the cooperation between music and literature.
