Fressnapf is looking for the pet of the year - who will be the hero?

Alsergrund, Österreich - The Viennese Stiegl outpatient clinic has renamed itself and will now be known under the name "Freiherz". This renaming is part of a comprehensive commitment to the animal welfare community and sets new accents in the care of pets in the region. What is behind this decision? The Initiative aims to create an even more warm and animal welfare environment.

In this context, the Fressnapf chain is also looking for the "pet of the year", and the vote runs until July 13th. The loving four -legged friends are not only loyal companions, they are also fixed family members. A special Highlight is Scotty, a small Münsterländer who saved his owner's life. In addition, the voting can look forward to a competition in which a battery suction wiper of the Leifheit brand is being raffled off. The agile suction wiper brings with it some advantages, such as a low weight of only 3.3 kg and the ability to suck, wipe and dry at the same time.

commitment to animal welfare

As part of the Fressnapf initiative "Animally committed", the "Golden Fressnapf" is also awarded, an award that honors the outstanding work of animal rights activists. The winner for 2024 is Dr. Katrin Wontorra, a veterinarian who offers free veterinary care for needy animal owners in Germany with her organization "Veterinary Practice Without Borders Gug". This practice helps to overcome the financial hurdles with which many animal owners are confronted. Since the introduction of the new fee schedule for veterinarians (got) in 2022, the costs for veterinary treatments have increased by 20-25 %, which makes life difficult for many owners.

dr. Wontorra has set itself the task of offering free treatments and operations for sick animals every week, financed by their non -profit organization. The 7,000 euros in prize money that she receives for the "golden Fressnapf" are to be invested in more serious operations for around ten animals. The situation in the animal shelters is also critical: According to the German Animal Welfare Association, over two thirds of the facilities have overcrowded capacities, which is usually related to the increasing costs for veterinary treatments.

insights into the costs

A often underestimated aspect of pet posture is the veterinarian costs. These can vary enormously from routine examinations to vaccinations to complex surgical interventions. According to a table in the Finanzfreak platform, the price for a general investigation with advice is 23.62 euros and a rabies vaccination costs around 11.50 euros. The annual expenses for routine investigations can amount to 100 to 200 euros, while complex treatments can quickly go into money.

Regular preventive examinations are essential for the health of animals. Puppies in particular need more frequent studies, while older animals should be presented at the veterinarian at least twice a year. The fee schedule for veterinarians (got) determines the maximum costs, but many owners underestimate the financial burdens that can arise from the care of their pets.

These topics show how important it is to be aware of financial obligations when keeping pets and seek support in good time if it becomes financially tight. The current initiatives and awards also shed light on the tireless efforts in animal welfare and motivate both animal owners and society to make an active contribution.

Vienna once again shows that animal protection -oriented approaches and social commitment can go hand in hand. Even if life with pets is not always easy, they enrich our lives immensely!
