Cardboard art: Vernissage to Liddy Scheffknecht's living room installation!

Dornbirn, Österreich - The art scene in Vorarlberg proved to be a real highlight last week when the vernissage for the exhibition “Living Room (Closing)” by Liddy Scheffknecht took place in the ORF regional radio house in Dornbirn. Coordinated by ORF state director Markus Klement, the Council of Culture Barbara Schöbi-Fink and curator Marbod Fritsch, the event attracted numerous representatives of the local art scene. Among the guests there was a prominent audience, including gallery owners who could look over the shoulder of the artist while creative work.

The exhibition opened the doors on June 3, 2025, but the actual vernissage took place on June 8th. Liddy Scheffknecht presented her impressive spatial cardboard installation in the form of an oversized pop-up book. This work of art invites visitors to immerse yourself in a classic living room that is equipped with a centrally placed television. Instead of just taking a nostalgic look into the analog past, the installation addresses the significant change in media use in the digital age and thus signaled the social change of the traditional living room.

insights into the artwork

The sculpture made of cardboard and paper tape is reminiscent of the central pieces of furniture of a living room: sofa, table, chest of drawers and television. However, it also shows the fragility of our media experience, because the object can open up and down like a pop-up book. This illustrates the dissolution of the usual television experience and gives reason to reflect on the changes in dealing with media.

The vernissage also attracted numerous artists and cultural managers, including Margot Prax from the Galerie.Z, Elke and Herbert Alber from the Arthouse Gallery and Amrei Wittwer, an also exhibiting artist. Mathias Garnitschnig, a well -known sculptor, and nippon.f)) Wire Gallery Managing Director Thomas Häusle were present. It turns out that the vernissage was a good place for exchange and inspiration.

look into the future of art in the radio house

The exhibition can be seen in the ORF Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg until September 14, 2025, and the next vernissage of the "Art in the Funkhaus" series will take place at the end of September 2025 with Stefan Kainbacher. So visitors can look forward to more exciting artistic encounters.

Invitation to cultural reflection, art and social issues combine in this installation of Liddy Scheffknecht as well as on a barn that dances between the past and the future. The visitors are cordially invited to become part of this refreshing and at the same time thoughtful journey through the world of the living room.
