Anniversary concert: 50 years of music school Bregenz-Stadt inspires with diversity!
A very special occasion brought many music lovers together in the Vorarlberg Landestheater on June 10, 2025. On this day the Musikmittelschule Bregenz-Stadt her 50th birthday. Over 91 talented children from four music classes showed their skills at an anniversary concert and spoiled the audience with a mixture of five decades of music history.
The concert, led by the committed music teachers Melanie Graber-Melzenbach and Julia Zischg, offered a wide range of musical highlights. In addition to classics such as "I have a dream" by Abba and "You’re The Voice" by John Farnham, contemporary hits such as "Levitating" by Dua Lipa and "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd were also presented. The Vorarlberg folk songs also found their place in the program and rounded off the successful event optimally.
A look at the story
The music middle school has an impressive story - it is the third oldest of its kind in Austria and was founded in 1975 by Wolfgang Leser. Since then, over a thousand music students have gone through the school and experienced many unforgettable moments. An important step in the development of this educational institution was the takeover by Wolfgang Schwendinger, who continued to drive musical training.
The school is not only known for its high quality training. The atmospheric Advent concerts in the Galluskirche in Bregenz are also legendary and have already touched many people. Especially after the corona -related forced break, traditional musical production was tackled again, and this revival with a modern version of "Sleeping Beauty" has attracted a lot of attention.
a festival for all generations
Special guests paid tribute to this milestone: among the guests of honor were educational councilor Eveline Miess, the music school director Bettina Wechselberger as well as numerous other city councilors and directors. A highlight was the appearance of Wolfgang Stern, the founder of the first Austrian main music school Ferdinandeum. After the concert, the young artists received Standing Ovations and were rewarded with a warm encore.The celebration ended with a social drink in the foyer of the theater, in which former and teachers exchanged memories and reviewed the experiences of the past five decades. Such anniversaries not only show musical ability, but also strengthen the cohesion of the school community and its friends.
The musical journey through time and the many contributions from different genres once again showed how alive the Bregenz-Stadt music middle school is. Long -term cooperation with the Bregenz Festival and the Choral Cooperations also underline the importance of this institution in the Austrian music landscape.
