Burggräflergasse 11, 6900 Bregenz, Österreich - The city of Bregenz has taken another step towards long -term use of its sports infrastructure. The city council unanimously decided to renovate the flat roof of the Rieden-Vorkloster sports hall. This measure is particularly important because the hall not only plays a central role for school sports, but also for numerous sports clubs.

The sports hall, which was opened in 2004 and was awarded the Hypo brewer prize the following year, has established itself as a significant facility for school and club sports. It is used every day by the Rieden Middle School and the Vorkloster sports school for up to 200 hours lessons. In the evening and on weekends, numerous activities take place there, especially in performance-oriented handball sports-the hall is also known as the handball arena Rieden-Vorkloster, which can accommodate up to 1600 spectators.

planned renovation measures

The planned work includes the repair and renewal of the roof seal. The aim is to secure the substance of the hall in the long term and to ensure its use. The execution work is carried out by a regional specialist company, and the investment amount is around 205,000 euros gross. This investment is part of a larger plan for developing and improving sports facilities in Austria, as defined in the government program 2020-2024. This program aims to optimize the use of sports facilities in a public sector and to take into account the "center approach" in order to promote both top sport and mass sports.

In addition, a digital platform, the "Austrian sports facility atlas", is created in order to improve the utilization of the existing sports infrastructure and to meet existing needs. Topics such as accessibility and sustainable building are also the focus.

a hall with history

The Rieden-Vorkloster sports hall is not only a place for daily school sports, but has also established itself as a venue for various top-class events. These include group games of the EHF Champions League as well as qualifying games from the women's handball European Championship in 2014 and 2016. Due to the versatile uses, the hall offers space for the community and ambitious athletes and is therefore an important part of sporting life in Bregenz.

The renovation of the roof is a step in the right direction to bring this important facility to shape and to ensure that it will continue to serve as a platform for many generations of athletes and students in the future.
