New bike path to the Plansee: Safe enjoyment for families begins!

In Tyrol, an important infrastructural project is currently being implemented that benefits both locals and guests. On July 19, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new cycle path to the popular Plansee took place, which should not only create a safe connection for cyclists, but also for pedestrians. The Plansee is known for its breathtaking nature and attracts numerous visitors, which makes the access road over the Rossrücken a strongly frequented route. This is exactly where the project comes in, because the previous traffic situation was anything but unproblematic, especially for families with children. As reports meinzirk.at, the bike path is around four kilometers long and runs parallel to the street.

Aktuell already work at various points in the area, and the completion of the bike path is being aimed for in autumn 2026. "Finding the route was not a sugar," explains Markus Rudigier, who was significantly involved in the search for the optimal route. The bike path will have a width of three meters and is equipped with a paved surface and center line markings for cyclists. In addition, a gravel strip is intended for pedestrians so that each group can be safely on the move.

Another central component of the project is the new Seespitzbrücke, which will enable a safe crossing of the street. The first construction phase, the heavyweight is on the construction of this bridge, began on February 6, 2024. As from press.tirol.at, a reinforced concrete composite was planned for the bridge, both that Functional and aesthetically high quality should be. The wingspan is 31 meters, and a special passage height ensures that the water rescue can easily get underneath.

The total cost of the project amounts to 2.5 million euros, with the state of Tyrol covering 58 percent of the costs. The project will be implemented in cooperation with various partners, including the municipalities of Breitenwang and Reutte as well as the Elektrizitätswerke Reutte AG and the Reutte tourism association. The construction of the bridge includes a cladding with larch wood, which gives it an appealing appearance and further increases the long -term attractiveness of the Plansee.

The new bike path reduces the slope to less than eleven percent and thus increases the possible uses for both cyclists and hikers.
