Wolf shot in the Ötztal: Population asked to report!
In Tyrol, exciting things are happening - two wolves are in the focus of the hunters from today. The state of Tyrol has issued a launch regulation that allows a wolf to be launched in the Ötztal and another in East Tyrol. This measure is followed by a worrying increase in sheep cracks that farmers have startled in the past few weeks. A total of eight dead sheep were found in the municipal areas of Stams and Silz by mid -June, while in Amlach on June 15 and 16, a further seven animal corpses were discovered. The locally responsible official veterinarian suspected that a wolf could be responsible for these cracks, which led to the newly issued regulations. The Tyrolean daily newspaper reports that the regulations come into force with midnight and apply until the beginning and in the middle of August.
Here the state of Tyrol is quite active. Six shooting regulations were issued this year, two of which have already been fulfilled by hunters. There are also further regulations in the Stubai Valley and in the Ötztal by the end of July and early August. There is a very easy way for the population to become active: sightings and observations of wolves can be reported via a viewing form on the country's website.
A look at the Wolf spread
But where does the wolf actually come from our beautiful Tyrol? In the past 30 years, the wolf has spread again in many parts of Europe. In Austria he was at home until the 19th century, then it largely disappeared. It was only since 2009 that up to seven wolves have been proven again per year, which recover from Alpine areas such as the Carpathian and the Balkans. A first pack was formed in Allensteig, Lower Austria Bär, Wolf, Luchs informed about the return of the wolf and its history.
The cause of the return is complex: increasing forest content and the withdrawal of agriculture offer the wolf new habitats. At the same time, differences in pasture keeping the distribution of both prey and prey.
The present risks should also encourage the surrounding communities to think. The wolf has spread greatly in Europe in the past decades, and growing awareness of the way of life of this animal is becoming increasingly important. The local hunters have already been informed and reserved, but certainly react to the situation.
The Tyrolean state government calls for all citizens to help: Sights or observations of wolves can be reported on the country's website at www.tirol.gv.at/baer_wolf_luchs. Together we can ensure that the balance is preserved in our nature and at the same time the interests of farmers are preserved.
