Skulpture magic in Hall: Sergio Sommavilla conquers the Jesuit Church!
Hall in Tirol, Österreich - The Jesuit Church in Hall in Tyrol is currently the scene for the impressive “face” of the South Tyrolean artist Sergio Sommavilla. The works that can be seen by September 14, 2025 offer visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative world of the artist and to take a closer look at the graceful sculptures. Admission is free, so art lovers and curious people are addressed alike.
Expressive heads are shown, which are made of different materials such as sound, wood and stone. These works fit harmoniously into the sacred space of the Jesuit Church and invite you to think about the relationship between art and clergy. The exhibition opens its doors to visitors from Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. In order to promote the exchange about art, there are several guided tours for adults and children that take place on certain dates: on August 1st, 14th and 22nd and on September 4th.
artist in the focus
Sergio Sommavilla, born in Brixen in 1951, has had a long and impressive career. After completing his training at the art school in St. Ulrich, he moved to Venice at the end of the 1960s, where he studied sculpture. Between 1971 and 2011 he worked as an art teacher at South Tyrolean middle schools and attached great importance to convey art as a practical skill in order to promote the creativity of the students. His works have been exhibited at home and abroad since 1983, always using materials such as terracotta, basalt, wood, sandstone and bronze. The selection of the material is often intuitive and is influenced by inspiring trips to quarries like Carrara.
For the final event of the exhibition on September 14, 2025 at 6:00 p.m., the choir has announced the voice salt, which will provide musical accents under the motto "Everything in the head". This event is likely to be a wonderful opportunity to explore the connection between sound and picture and to complete the exhibition.
art in sacred space
The exhibition "Anlitze" is part of a broader discussion about art in sacred space. In addition, there is the catalog "Wohnstiel: Art in Sacred Space", the cooperation between the German Society for Christian Art and the Association for Christian Art. The catalog illuminates the meaning and emotional influence of art in churches and contains feedback from a survey among those responsible for Evangelical and Catholic communities. The thematic discussion shows that more and more people are interested in redesigning and reviving sacred rooms, which may be reinforced by the loss of some church buildings.
The exhibition "Bottish" and the accompanying events are a great opportunity to deal with contemporary art and to reflect on their meaning in the context of faith. All details are on the websites Südtirol News href = "https://www.hall-wattens.at/de/kunst-im-skralraum-antlitze-antlitze-von-sergio-sommavilla.html"> Hall-wattens and DG " Kuntraum to be found. So keep the time free and visit the Jesuit Church in Hall! It is definitely worth it!
