Sculptures in dialogue: Sergio Sommavilla shows face in Hall!

From July 5, 2025, the Kunstraum Jesuit Church in Hall in Tyrol will become the scene of a unique exhibition. The South Tyrolean sculptor Sergio Sommavilla presents its work show entitled "Antlitze". As Buongiornosuedtirol will be open until September 14, 2025, and entry is free. This is already the fourth exhibition that takes place in this impressive art space, and visitors can look forward to an exciting connection between baroque and contemporary art.

Sommavilla, born in Brixen in 1951 and a convinced representative of his craft, devoted his career to art. From 1971 to 2011 he worked as an art educator at South Tyrolean middle schools and not only conveyed the pupils of technical knowledge, but also promoted their creativity. The materials he uses for his sculptures are as diverse as the topics he treats - from terracotta to basalt to wood and bronze. Sommavilla says of his choice of material that it is strongly shaped by its instinct and that travel to quarries such as in Carrara or Regensburg are often necessary to find the appropriate substance, as on Hall-Wattens emphasized.

insight into the exhibition

The exhibition addresses the clash of different artifications. Sommavilla’s sculptures that are created as archaic -looking heads made of different materials tell stories and take visitors on a visual journey. These works are not specially designed for the church room of the Jesuit Church, but fit harmoniously into the existing atmosphere, so that they can be perceived as part of a "procession". The silent beginning of the exhibition on July 5th at 11 a.m. The exhibition also offers guided tours that are intended for adults and children, especially in the summer months. Anita Töchterle-Graber will lead through the exhibition on August 1st and 22nd at 4 p.m., while children's tours with Regina Hundegger will take place on August 14th and September 4th at 10 a.m.

cultural accompanying events

A special highlight of the exhibition will be the final concert on September 14th at 6 p.m., in which the Haller Choir will appear with its program "Everything in the head". This event not only promises musical delights, but also rounds off the exhibition in a wonderful way. The opening times during the exhibition are Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., so there is enough time to experience the memorable works.
