Graz rampage: grief and cancellations take up Styria
In Styria there is a depressing mood after the tragic killing spree of a 21-year-old at the Borg Dreierschützengasse in Graz, who has asked for a total of eleven fatalities. The population mourns and shows compassion, especially the organizers in the Leoben district, who have to cancel numerous festivals and events due to these horrific events. As the Kleine Zeitung reports, plans Christoph Wegscheider from the agency Tiqa "Styrian Roas" in iron ore severely restricted. Preparations are overshadowed by grief for the victims.
The city of Graz and the state of Styria have decided out of respect for the victims and their relatives to cancel a large number of events. Mayor Elke Kahr and Governor Mario Kunasek announced a comprehensive pause. Significant events such as concerts, theater performances, award ceremonies and large events will not take place, such as today . Opera Graz and Schauspielhaus stop playing up to and including Thursday, and several performances, including the ballet premiere "Carnival of the Animals", were canceled.
mourning and commemoration
In memory of the victims, a funeral service will take place in the Oswaldikirche on Saturday at 9 a.m. The mountain music band Eisenerz then march to the marquee to present the appearance of folk music groups, but in a steamed frame. There will also be a minute of fun for the victims at the district musician meeting on Sunday. For many, this is an important step to help the community during this difficult time.
The 19th International Messer Exhibition in the Innenberg Trade Union House, however, is not canceled. Here, however, everyone involved appears carefully and in memory of the events. The Bergmusikkapelle Eisenerz also celebrates its 215th anniversary, but the festival will take place much quieter and cautious than originally planned.
cancel and solidarity
The sad episodes of the killing spree not only shake Graz, but the whole Styria. Almost all events that are in the region in the near future are affected. The market festival in St. Peter-Freienstein and the Moakt church day in Niklasdorf were canceled from solidarity. There are also other local events in Trofaiach, Chambers and Vordernberg under a bad star, with numerous cancellations that reflect the feeling of sympathy and grief.
Joseph Vogl, cultural scientist, explains in an interview that amokates not only reflect individual tragedies, but also significantly symptomatic problems of our society. He emphasizes that such acts should stimulate the community to think about social milieus and the underlying social structures, such as "https://www.deutschlandfunkkultur.de/erklaerungs-fuer-was-mache-mache-ein-amoclauf-100.html" Class = "Source_3"> Deutschlandfunk Kultur reported. This reflection on violence and its causes is now all the more urgent.
The country stands still, while people come together to mourn and support each other.
