Kapfenberg shines: Jiu Jitsu talent fight 21 medals!

Kapfenberg, Österreich - Recently there was an impressive event in the Walfersamhalle in Kapfenberg, which celebrated the sports spirit and the skills of the Jiu-Jitsu community. The Styrian Jiu-Jitsu national championship attracted almost 400 athletes from all over Austria, which underlines the importance of the event. As meinzirk.at not only shone in a purely sporting competition, but also in the disciplines fighting, duo and brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Local successes and medal rain

The yield of the local athletes, who were able to achieve a total of 21 medals, was particularly gratifying: including three gold medals, nine silver medals and just as many bronze medals. Trainer and organizer Nicole Urschinger was enthusiastic about the strong appearance of the young talent and was optimistic about the future development of the athletes. The event was characterized by exciting competitions and confirmed the high performance of the two clubs, BJJ Austria Kapfenberg and Jiu Jitsu Turnau.

A highlight of the last week was the Styrian Open Championship 2025, which also took place in the Walfersamhalle from June 21 to 22. This championship brought together athletes from different age groups and performance levels to put their skills in the BJJ, Jiu Jitsu Gi and Nogi, as well as in Fighting and Duo System. Here, too, an exciting competition developed that captivated the participants and spectators. Depending on the category, the starting fees were 35 to 50 EUR, which ensured a broad participant, since the sport remains affordable for many.

Background to Jiu Jitsu in Austria

The Jiu Jitsu Verband (JJVÖ) has been the central contact for all concerns about Jiu Jitsu and related fighting in Austria in 1964. As a umbrella organization, the JJVÖ acts for both the regional associations and for the athletes and has developed a high number of members. After a decline due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the number of members has currently risen to over 2800 again. President Robert Horak and his board actively promote the development of Jiu Jitsu in Austria and are regularly present at events and championships.

With such successful events and a living community, the signs for a continued positive development of the Jiu Jitsu in Austria are good. For many, the combination of hard training and exciting competitions remains an incentive to join sport and become active themselves. The organizers showed a good hand - and so you can look forward to the next competitions.
