Jakominiplatz, Graz, Österreich - this day, June 3, 2025, there was a shocking incident at Jakominiplatz in Graz. At around 4 p.m. the police were alerted due to a knife attack. Passers-by had observed how a 69-year-old Syrian man called for help with a cut injury. According to the victim, he was attacked and injured by a 49-year-old compatriot that was known to him, reported Inside-graz.at.

The attacker fled immediately after the incident. Thanks to the rapid reaction of the witnesses, the police were able to initiate a search immediately. A short time later, the suspect was arrested nearby, at a tram stop. Also the Kleine Zeitung reports that the 49-year-old was then brought to the Graz police recess center, where he is now waiting for the further investigation of the Graz crime department.

This incident is unfortunately not isolated - the number of knife attacks in Austria has risen significantly in recent years. Compared to 2013, a sudden increase was found from the 1,524 reported cases on 2,393 in 2022.
