Graz presents civil protection brochure for people with disabilities!

At today's presentation of the new brochure "Civil Protection for People with Disabilities" in Graz, a significant step to support people with special needs in crisis situations was presented. Magistrate director Martin Haidvogl, disabled representative Wolfgang Pallle, security manager Gilbert Sandner and Julia Wild and Angela Schick emphasized the importance of this 32-page publication, which is now made accessible to a broader public. 5min.at reports that the brochure was presented in the "week of inclusion", an event that focuses on the topics of inclusion and accessibility.

The brochure aims to address specific needs of people with disabilities, especially in the event of a blackout. The insufficient availability of comparable information is pointed out. Critical topics are dealt with, such as the effects of a power failure on the cooling of vital medication, access to buildings for wheelchair users in lift failure and the functionality of medical devices during such crises. Orf Styria puts the goal of the brochure: to close an information gap for the affected people.

content focus

The brochure offers a wealth of advice that are written in easy -to -understand language and large font size. Recommendations for action for different target groups such as people with movement restrictions, blind or visually limited people as well as people with learning difficulties are given. Security Graz emphasizes that concrete information about crisis-light towers and information points in Graz are supplemented.

  • meaning of civil protection
  • Effects of a longer power failure
  • recommendations for food supplies
  • checklists for processing and filling out

Another goal of the brochure is to encourage people, deal with their own needs and emergency strategies. This should be able to build a reliable network and create individual emergency plans. "This brochure stimulates thinking and is an invitation to better prepare for possible crises," says security manager Gilbert Sandner.

a step in the right direction

The positive response to the model shows how important this type of public relations is. Against the increasing frequency of natural disasters and other crisis situations, sensitization and education about the special needs of people with disabilities are becoming increasingly important. The need was there, and now this brochure is taking a step in the right direction to better protect even the most vulnerable groups in society in crises.

The brochure is available online on the website of Safety Graz and is intended to ensure that no one falls by the wayside in times of crisis.
