25 years of Tumawas: leisure fun and inclusion for everyone!
In 2025, the tumawas project, which was launched by life-size, celebrates its 25th anniversary. The initiative aims to offer leisure fun and assistance for people with disabilities. The focus is on promoting self -confidence, independence and self -determination of the participants. With the support of committed assistant forces, numerous activities are offered that range from hiking to bowling to thermal baths and visiting Special Olympics. So the program ensures varied experiences and a lot of joy.
The current program of Tumawas includes impressive 76 pages full of diverse offers. Particularly noteworthy are the new holiday offers that have been available for people who have already participated in Tumawas activities since the previous year. It is important that participation from the age of 15 is made possible, regardless of whether the leisure assistance notice is available or is registered as self -paying. Those who have become curious can register by phone or email. The contact information is easy to reach: an email to tumawas@lebensgross.at or the phone 0676/84 52 78 330.
an important step in social participation
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN-BRK) plays a crucial role in the access of people with disabilities to sport, cultural and leisure activities. Their goal is to promote and guarantee human rights for around 1 billion people worldwide. Nevertheless, two thirds of people with disabilities live in developing countries, whereby only about 40 countries, mostly industrialized nations, have implemented national disabled political legislation. There are concrete efforts to tackle these topics and to strengthen participation in society through initiatives such as Tumawas ([bmas.de] (https://www.bmas.de/de/s-ITHETHABE and-Inklion/politik-fuer-menschen-mit-bäffenungen/behindertrechtsrechtsrecht-der-verigtenrechtsrechtsrechts-der-vereinten-nations.html)).
A key to the successful implementation of the UN-BRK lies in the specific design of the rights and measures to equal opportunities. Art. 4 urges states to take suitable measures to design an inclusive environment. These legal requirements are intended to ensure that people with disabilities can take part in society on an equal footing. Governments have to report regularly on their progress-a process that has already started in Germany when the first test procedure for the implementation of the UN-BRK took place in 2015 and the second investigation was scheduled for 2023 ([bpb.de] (https://www.bpb.de/themen/inchion-teithaben/ undamerations/521733/un-behardtenrechtsrechtsrechtskonvention-lechtkeit/)).
Together for inclusion and acceptance
The approach of Tumawas hits the mark. It is not only a question of leisure activities, but also an important measure to promote social acceptance and cooperation. For the coming years, Tumawas plans to further expand the offer and to give even more people access to leisure activities. The importance of such programs should not be underestimated - they help to ensure that people with disabilities are not only integrated but actively involved. This makes it clear that participation in society goes far beyond the leisure value.
A broad consistent exchange and clear legislative support are necessary steps to achieve the goal of inclusion in all areas of life. Initiatives such as Tumawas are exemplary for the effort to actively tackle the challenges of inclusion and to sustainably improve the lives of people with disabilities. The constant commitment to participation and social acceptance is the key to a solidarity and inclusive community.
