Gratwein-Straßengel: groundbreaking for fast fiber optic network!

The groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art fiber optic network was celebrated in Gratwein-Straßengel. This important project is promoted by the Austrian fiber optic fiber infrastructure company (ÖGIG) and has an investment volume of around 7 million euros. The financing is completely private, without public funds. The Swietelsky company was committed as a construction partner, which contributes to the implementation of the project with its expertise. With the aim of providing around 3,000 FTTH connections (Fiber to the Home) by the end of 2025, the new network will include a total length of 40 kilometers.

Mayor Doris Dirnberger is positive about the project and sees it a significant step for the digital future of the community. "With this initiative, we move in the right direction to bring our region technologically forward," said Dirnberger. The open network enables residents to choose freely between different internet providers, which is an attractive alternative to existing providers.

growing digital infrastructure in Austria

The fiber optic expansion is a central concern of the Austrian digitization strategy. According to rtr in the European comparison, both in the glass Availability as well as in the demand for FTTH connections.

challenges and opportunities

An important aspect that influences the spread of FTTH connections is the availability of alternative infrastructures. The use of FTTH in Austria is currently stable at 18-19%, with regional differences. In Salzburg, the rate is only 4%, while Upper Austria is at the top with 28%. In order to promote this expansion, the RTR starts a project that deals with the possibilities and barriers at Open Access Netzen.

The increasing demand and the associated competition could have a positive effect on the FTTH expansion in Austria. With the right impulses, the citizens want to facilitate digital participation and create the framework conditions for so -called very high capacity networks (VHCN).

Developments in Gratwein-Straßengel are a clear sign that fiber optic expansion in Austria is progressing and more and more municipalities will benefit from the advantages of digital infrastructure. This not only increases the quality of life of the citizens, but also laid an important foundation for economic development in the region.

It remains to be seen how the situation will develop at the other locations, while the Austrian society hopes for a future -oriented fiber optic expansion.
