250 years of music history: Stadtkapelle Oberndorf celebrates grandiose anniversary!
The city chapel on the Salzach in Oberndorf celebrated an impressive 250th anniversary, which extended over a whole weekend. A festival of music and friendship, the past and present connected. Mayor Matthias Winter from the twin town of Oberndorf am Neckar, accompanied by a delegation and members of the music association there, did not miss the opportunity to congratulate personally and enrich the celebrations with a "musical gift".
When the big festival started on May 28, 2025, the anticipation in the air was literally noticeable. Highlights such as the appearance of the Spider Murphy Gang and the numerous concerts, parades and musical performances made the weekend unforgettable. Up to 74 guest clubs were represented in Oberndorf, including 50 music bands from Salzburg's Flachgau, the Innviertel, Bavaria and the city of Salzburg. The event combined musicians and friends of music from near and far and promoted the exchange between the cities, such as [Salzburg 24] (https://www.salzburg24.at/news/salzburg/250-jahne-musikgeschichte-stadtkapelle-feier-jubilaeum-mit-fest-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art-Art.
a festival in the sign of "Silent Night"
The festivities took place in a particularly meaningful backdrop, in front of the famous Stille-Nacht chapel and the parish church of St. Nikolaus. A special reference was on the song "Silent Night, Holy Night", which was premiered on December 24, 1818 in the St. Nicholas Church. This song not only shaped the history of the city chapel, but also found an important place in culture and music worldwide. The Stille-Nacht chapel attracts many visitors every year, especially at Christmas time, which underlines the importance of this place. This is also recorded in the history of the song, as the Silent Nacht Museum illustrates.
A few exciting background: The legend that a mouse damaged the organ's blowing balg for the bladder is not true. In fact, it was the old organ that probably didn't work properly than the song was premiered. Over the years, the song carried a real trip around the world thanks to various musical performances and performances, as local traditions tell.
tradition meets modern
The festival not only brought up historical achievements, but also offered a platform for newer musical talents. On May 30, 2025, there was a large parade in the Stille-Nacht-Platz, where visitors could enjoy the harmonious sounds of the music bands. On May 31 and June 1st, other traditionally designed music festivals followed with a high level of musical quality. The Pongauer Tanzlmusi and the Zomg’hte group also ensured the best entertainment in the marquee, which was equipped with 2400 seats for the performance of the Spider Murphy Gang.
At the end of the further weekend, the mood was characterized by friendship and warmth. A reunion was sought, possibly at the 111th anniversary of the Stadtkapelle Oberndorf, which could be celebrated in the Klosterhof at the end of June. The Stadtkapelle Oberndorf, one of the oldest music bands in Salzburg, has more than 65 active members who move between 14 and 77 years and continue to keep the tradition of music alive.
With this anniversary, the city chapel on the Salzach not only celebrated its important role in regional music history, but also set a strong sign of the connection and joy in music. Mauthausen Music found that the next encounter will continue to have a high priority, in the sign of common musical connection.
