Celebration for the 140th anniversary of the Hallein Alpine Club!

Hallein, Österreich - The Alpine Association Section Hallein recently celebrated its 140th anniversary with a festival in the brick stadl. The ceremonial event was visited by Mayor Alexander Stangassinger, the President of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV), Wolfgang Schnabl, and the ÖAV general secretary, Clemens Matt. The festival program framed long -time members as well as musical performances and a lecture by meteorologist Michael Staudinger. A review of the eventful history of the association gave the festivals a comprehensive insight into the development of the section, which was founded on December 8, 1884 by Mayor Alois Oedl. Already on March 1, 1885, the Ministry of the Interior was approved, and Ascan Conrad, founder of the "Charlottenhütte" power factory, was elected as the first chairman. Together with committee members such as Johann Schmieder and Josef Schachtner, the association initiated numerous activities, including alpine hikes and the care of hiking trails.

The first Barmstein-Weg was opened in 1885, which later became known as "Mayor Alois Oedl-Steig". However, the association also faced challenges, for example when the plan to build an accommodation hut on the Hohen Göll, failed due to financial hurdles. Instead, the Purtschellerhaus in Sonnenberg was built in 1900. Richard Schlegel and Willi Tischendorf steered the fortunes of the Hallein section from 1980 to 2010 and contributed to the further development of the association. The diverse event program that includes tours, lectures, inclination groups and festivals ensures that there are always offers for members.

commitment to nature and the environment

An important aspect of the association is the commitment of its members in the field of environmental protection and nature care. Wegewart Hans Otty is emphasized, who actively participates in environmental projects and also works with refugee young people. Recently, young people between the ages of 16 and 30 can get involved with voluntary environmental construction sites. These projects offer the option of actively contributing to the remediation of environmental damage, for example by attaching paths or planting trees. The commitment is not only valued by the participating young people, but also by the local mountain farmers, foresters and environmental officers who provide support in the projects. Accommodation and meals are free of charge, and one or two days off are available for relaxation. These initiatives are part of a broad strategy for the preservation of the stability and vitality of the mountain forests, such as [Alpenverein-akademie.at] (https://www.alpenverein-akademie.at/voluntener-und-praktika/bergwaldprojekt- Umweltbaustellen/index.php).

The Austrian Alpine Club itself was founded on November 19, 1862, with the aim of promoting love for nature and the Alps. Over the years, the association developed continuously by introducing practical activities for members and committed to environmental protection and nature conservation. The preservation of the alpine landscape and the promotion of closeness to nature are still the central concerns of the association. The story is characterized by the integration of small alpine groups and the close cooperation with other clubs, such as the German Alpine Association, to ensure comprehensive care for nature and high standards in the climbing and hiking area. This has also contributed to the increasing number of members, which is currently around 2,646, which is the fourth largest organization section in the country, as meinzirge.at
