New park in St. Georgen: green space as a future model for the community!

On June 14, 2025, a small but fine contribution to the future municipality was opened in St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde: a new park that was made on the area of a former supermarket. With an area of around 1,700 m², this park not only gives the place a fresh face, but is also the first implemented project of the comprehensive master plan for community development, which in cooperation between the market town and the architecture firm poppepeprehal architects has been created.

The opening was celebrated with music, a picnic and the presentation of a new community image video. The jazz band Hi4 ensured the musical framework, while visitors could relax in the newly designed park landscape. A real highlight of the system is the elegant pavilion that shapes the new oasis of the place together with lounge areas, a herbal corner and a drinking water fountain.

local supply and quality of life in focus

The master plan has set itself the goal of making the municipality of St. Georgen future -proof in order to promote livable and sustainable development. The focus is on local development, improving mobility and activating vacant properties. "We would like to design the town center as a meeting point for all generations and increase the quality of life," explains architect Helmut Poppe. An important measure is the redesign of the former dairy site as a community center and the upgrading of the marketplace and other public rooms.

The requirements for sustainable urban development are high. These include not only the consideration of living needs and the creation of health -promoting conditions, but also the social and environmentally protecting aspects of building. For example, changes in existing city quarters and the promotion of affordable living space are essential components of modern action in urban planning, such as the Environmental Bundesamt emphasized.

inauguration of the good! Steps

Another supporting element is the integration of the "Tuts good!"-steps for health promotion, which offers two different routes. This shows how strongly the municipal project pays attention to aesthetic, but also on health aspects. A compact, diverse city center is sought that offers space for relaxation and social interaction.

How the Federal Center for Political Education is of central importance. A look at the challenges in front of which many communities stand is particularly evident in the question: Who designs and with what resources? It is important to focus on future generations and their needs to create lively and livable settlements.

Ultimately, the new park in St. Georgen should not only become a place of relaxation for the residents, but also to symbolize a sustainable, common urban development - a model that could make school throughout the region.
