Live save! Blood donation campaign starts in Upper Austria from June 10th!

Bad Ischl, Österreich - blood is a lifegian - everyone knows that who has already needed what it has to offer. In Upper Austria, this important aspect is now impressively remembered in a joint action by ÖAMTC, Life Radio and the Red Cross. From June 10th to 16th, 2025 there will be a large blood donation campaign that not only contributes to general health care, but also focuses on the importance of donations. ÖAMTC Oberösterreich reports about this initiative, which will take place in several cities.

But why is blood donations actually so important? It is the only emergency medication that cannot be made artificially. In the middle of the summer months, when many people travel, blood products are in danger. Therefore, local actions can make a decisive contribution to ensuring medical care.

The planned action takes place in different locations in Upper Austria:

• Tuesday, June 10, 2025: Braunau, Perg, Rohrbach, Steyr
• Wednesday, June 11, 2025: Braunau, Perg, Rohrbach, Steyr
• Thursday, June 12, 2025: Bad Ischl, Eferding, Grieskirchen, Schärding
• Friday, June 13, 2025: Ried, Freistadt, Gmunden, Vöcklabruck
• Monday, June 16, 2025: Linz, Wels

The opening times are daily from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. In order to avoid long waiting times, interested parties can reserve their appointments online.

who can donate?

For everyone who decides to donate blood, here is the most important information: the prerequisites are between 18 and 70 years (first donors up to max. 60 years), a weight of at least 50 kg and a generally good state of health. In addition, the distance to the last blood donation should be at least eight weeks - women are allowed to donate a maximum of three times and men a maximum of four times a year. An official photo ID is also required for the donation.

This fundraising campaign is only one of many as part of the blood donation marathon 2024/2025, from which Meinbezirk.at already in November 2024 reported. The initiative shows how important blood donations are for the community.

The importance of a secure supply network for donations is also legally anchored. The Transfusion Act (TFG) ensures that the extraction and use of blood products is secure. The guidelines that are created by the Federal Medical Association and the Paul Ehrlich Institute determine standards to ensure the safety of blood donors and recipients.
