Large exercise in Ebensee: Fire brigade fights fictional forest fire!

Last Saturday, May 31, there was a large -scale exercise on the Feuerkogel in Ebensee to combat forest fires. The exercise, which started shortly after 7 a.m., was launched by the alarm by four fire departments of the Ebensee compulsory area and simulated an extensive forest fire near the mountain station of the cable car at approx. 1,600 m above sea level. According to Fireworld , the first position assessments required a quick and effective reaction, there was a further fire at the long wall caused.

In order to get the situation under control, the local management staff in the Ebensee fire station set up its operations center and demanded support from the St. Agatha forest fire base and two helicopters of the BMI. In addition, the Ebensee mountain rescue was alerted to ensure security measures. A landing site for the police helicopter was set up at the ASKÖ sports field in Ebensee.

intensive extinguishing measures

Overall, the exercise took around six hours, in which a sophisticated water supply system was established on the mountain. A relay line of 3,800 meters in length and a height difference of 512 m enable interactive extinguishing measures, while 13 portable injections ensured continuous water supply. This was particularly important because the fire water supply for the Langwandkogel took place exclusively from the air, which significantly increased the efficiency of the operations, such as emphasized.

The security of the emergency services had a top priority in the entire exercise, a reason for fundamental consideration, which is also of central importance in operational planning for future major events. According to at fire not only have to be effective, but also safe for the emergency services.

debriefing and knowledge

After completing the exercise, a first debriefing took place in the Ebensee fire station at around 3 p.m. Various positive knowledge for the planning and implementation of future operations was collected. Also thanks to the organizations and members involved, in particular at the district specialist HBI D.F. Markus Kogler, confirmed the cohesion and commitment of all emergency services.

With such an effective exercise, which not only served to prepare for hard operations, but also the community and cooperation among volunteers and aid organizations, it was again shown that everyone had to stand together in the fight against forest fires. The optimal cooperation and the use of modern technology are of enormous importance in order to be well equipped in crisis situations.
