Risk of forest fire: Strict regulation in Zwettl now valid!

Zwettl, Österreich - The Zwettl district administration took an important measure to protect the forests on June 25, 2025: the new forest fire regulation comes into force immediately. This decision should help to significantly reduce the risk of forest fire in the Zwettl district.

From now on, open fire and smoking near forests and in endangered zones are strictly prohibited. As reports meinzirk.at, the regulation includes all forest areas in the political district of Zwettl and adjacent danger zones. These so -called danger zones are defined as areas where the soil quality or wind conditions favor a spread of ground fires or sparking flights.

The forest owners have the option of making the ban visible and thus pointing out the new regulation. This is particularly important to ensure that all visitors to the forests are informed about the risks.

strict measures for violations

Anyone who violates the regulation must expect sensitive punishments. Finning will face up to 7,270 euros or even imprisonment of up to four weeks. These drastic measures are intended to set a clear sign and contribute to reducing the risk of forest fire, informed [Schweiggers.gv.at] (https://www.schweiggers.gv.at/waldbrandfahr_-_waldbrand Ordinance).

The legal foundations for this regulation come from Section 41 (1) in conjunction with Section 170 (1) of the Forestry Act. This shows how important the protection of the forests and nature is for the district administration.

forest fire risk in Austria

In order to better prevent forest fires, the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism has created the forest fire risk card, which ensures a comprehensive assessment of the risk-at risk in Austria. This card is based on data collected from 2001 to 2020 and shows that 50 out of 94 districts and statutory cities in Austria are classified with risk level 3 (medium risk of forest fire). The ministry continuously evaluates the dangers and challenges in the field of forest fire development and fighting. Information on the methodology and the data collected can be found on the official website of the ministry, such as bmluk.gv.at.

To avoid a forest fire effectively, it is crucial that all citizens adhere to these new regulations. The forest fire regulation is therefore a step in the right direction to protect our forests and nature.
