Mistelbach's village hero honored: commitment to our homeland!

In the Mistelbach district, a warm welcome for eleven extraordinary personalities who were honored as "village heroes" was organized on June 21, 2025. This award took place as part of the largest network meeting for regional development and paid tribute to the special contributions of the excellent quality of life in their communities. Meinverzirk reports that the honors of governor Stephan Pernkopf and Maria Forstner, the chairwoman of the Lower Austrian Association- & Urban renewal, were presented.

Stephan Pernkopf emphasized how important the creative ideas and the commitment of the local people are for village renewal. Around eight new initiatives are being created in the Mistelbach district, which impressively underlines the dynamics of regional development. Mayor Herwig Graf from Ottenthal emphasized the central role of volunteering for the communities at the holiday event.

• Eva Brunnhuber (Hochleithen): Brings numerous projects to your community.
• Christine Hiebner (Großkrut): Active in the field of culture, sport, politics and church.
• Wolfgang Paar (Poysdorf): Initiator of "Wine & Crime" and cultural mediator.
• Matthias Pesau (Falkenstein): Club person and designer of castle ruins.
• Thomas Spacil (Drasenhofen): Chairman of the beautification association that improves the townscape.
• Leopold Uhl (Gaubitsch): committed to a flourishing townscape.
• Martin Wannemacher (Bockfließ): chairman of the beautification association, active for hiking trails and club life.
• Josef Wasinger (Ladendorf): chairman of the village renewal club, organizes children's events.

A special honor also received Johann Fickl, who died shortly before the award, for his tireless commitment in the municipality of Niederleis.

voluntary initiatives

The campaign "Dorfheldinnen", which is already completed for 2025, aims to honor committed people who voluntarily contribute to the further development of their home communities in Lower Austria. How village- and urban renewal , the voluntary commitment is an indispensable foundation of our society. In Lower Austrian communities there are around 20,000 clubs that rely on the commitment of the citizens.

The nominations were carried out by the mayor and their deputy, with each community being able to propose a person for the award. The highlights of the initiative not only include the recognition of helpfulness and long -term commitment, but also innovative ideas for improving the quality of life on site.

A look at the future

The importance of commitment in rural communities is not only shown in the awards, but also in large -scale measures such as "social village development", which was launched in 2015. This initiative aims to revitalize village communities and use existing potentials, such as the BMEL . The focus is on volunteering, neighborhood help and club structures and are considered the key to success.

It is clear that as at the event in Mistelbach "there is something" - the generation and promoting ideas and the commitment to the community are crucial for a positive development in our villages and towns.
