Tango summer festival: Experience outrageous sounds in Chemnitz!

Franz-Mehring-Straße 32, 09130 Chemnitz, Deutschland - Tango is very important in Chemnitz, because the trio "Carl-Friedrich-Tango-Connection" brings a special summer concert on the stage on June 14, 2025. The enchanting atmosphere of the intercultural garden "Colorful Earth" on the Kaßberg will offer the perfect framework. The event begins at 6 p.m. at Franz-Mehring-Straße 32, and admission is free, but donations are welcome, as the Freie Presse reported .

The ensemble consists of the talented Bettina Hartel on the Bandoneon, the virtuoso Thu Trang Sauer on the violin and the creative Mathis Stendike, combined percussions, horn and electronics. This combination of instruments will open a new sound image of the tango and take visitors on a musical journey of discovery.

A look at the roots of the bandonon

The Chemnitz tango not only commemorates the music itself, but also of its roots. Carl Friedrich Uhlig, the inventor of the predecessor instrument of the bandonon, the concertina, is honored here. This historical instrument, which has a great Tradition in Chemnitz, offers a melancholic sound depth that ideal fits the tango. In the 19th century, Saxony developed into the center of Bandoneon production. According to an article by MDR , the Bandoneon in Carlsfeld in the Ore Mountains was made and quickly found worldwide distribution.

The Bandoneon has an eventful story: During the global economic crisis, many Europeans emigrated to Argentina, where the instrument was very well received in the tango. Chemnitz became Culture Capital in Europe in 2025, which throws additional light on the stage for the Bandoneon and the Tango scene. Around 50 dance events and international tango clubs are being planned, and public bandoneon concerts will also be part of the program.
