Heunburg-Theater starts 15th season with premiere and cabaret!

In the middle of the picturesque backdrop of Carinthia, the Heunburg rises, which not only has a historical value as an impressive ruin, but is also considered a lively venue for art and culture. For three decades she has been the stage for the theater group K.L.A.S., which has decisively shaped the cultural life of the region. “Woyzeck” by Georg Büchner was the first performance in 1995, which took place under the direction of Stefan Pfeistlinger. Despite the closure in 2010, which was necessary due to "cultural policy inadequacies", the Heunburg experienced a remarkable revitalization from 2011 thanks to Andreas Ickelsheimer. The first production under his direction, "The Three Birds", woke the old flair to life.

The anticipation for the coming 15th season is already noticeable, because on June 18, 2025 the premiere of "You are already heaven and the earth" is celebrated. This piece is a moving spectacle based on the correspondence between Christine Lavant and Werner Berg. The emotional bond with the Heunburg and the joy of the visitors are in the greatest honor for Ickelsheimer and his colleagues. The organizer always emphasizes this as his greatest motivation and also makes the heart of the audience beat faster.

special features of the 15th game season

The Heunburg Theater has launched a diverse program for the anniversary season. In addition to the premiere, Molière's classic "Tartuffe", which is reinterpreted by Daniel Pascal, is reinterpreted. In addition, there is something very special this year: Opera will be performed on Heunburg for the first time. The offer is rounded off by a new cabaret by Katrin Winkler-Jandl and Theater for the little ones in the last week of the holiday. Details will be published soon.

The Heunburg itself has an extraordinary story. Built in the 11th century by the Heunburg Counts, the castle became a center of power in the 13th century. The highlight of the story was in 1293 when Ulrich III. from Heunburg in the Battle of Wallersberg against the Habsburgs. Since then, the castle has experienced many changes: from the residence of the counts to a youth meeting point after the Second World War to a popular event location for those interested in culture. Despite a fire in 1749, which destroyed the roof of the main building, the ruin remains a fascinating attraction.
