Villach calls: Who can repair? Repair Café is looking for craftsmen!
In Villach, there is a lot going on when it comes to sustainability and repairing everyday objects. Vice Mayor Sarah Katholnig recently has recently attended the Repair Café for a few months Circular economy. In the Together City, on the corner of Ringmauergasse/Drauparkstraße, everyone who is talented or want to become can tinker together on defective objects instead of simply throwing them away.
The concept of the Repair Café, which was originally launched in Amsterdam in 2009, is based on voluntary cooperation, in which participants can repair both alone and together with the support of experts. So far, almost everything that is portable can be repaired here - from toys to kitchen blenders to bicycles and even lederhosen. "The appreciation for manual activities should move back into consciousness," explains Alexander Kastiunig, who heads the initiative in Villach and is currently looking for other volunteers who have a good hand for repairs.
volunteers wanted
But not only gifted are required. The Repair Café is also aimed at educators and students who are interested in implementing the concept at their schools. The aim is to strengthen teamwork and creativity and get the knowledge of repairs. The Repair Café is supported by the initiative, which already leaves traces around Europe in many cities and shows that repairs are not only a necessity, but also is fun and can be easy. The organizers emphasize that the Repair Café meetings also have the opportunity to relax with a coffee or tea and be inspired.
The next opportunity to create a hand is on September 13th, followed by further appointments on October 11th and on the district tour of the ASZ on September 29. At these events, the participants can bring their defective items with them and work together on their restoration. "It is a wonderful way to get things going again, which not only saves resources, but also contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions," continues Kastiunig.
a step towards sustainability
Repair cafés are not only an alternative to repair professionals, but also offer a platform to promote repair knowledge and to reduce the inhibitions to separate it. Æhnlich as in many European countries, where more and more objects are being thrown away, the initiative is also a sign against disposable mentality and for a more sustainable future. The extended use of objects not only reduces waste, but also covered the handling of materials.
