Jazz high enjoyment in Villach: Alexander Hawkins enchants the audience!

Moritschstraße 2, 9500 Villach, Österreich - On July 16, 2025, the Bambergsaal in Villach was a place of musical development when the British jazz pianist Alexander Hawkins organized his concert. Birthday child of the jazz scene, since his arrival in 1981 in Oxford, he took his audience into the world of jazz with his new CD "Song Unconditional", which is as multifaceted as a good glass of wine.

Hawkins, known for his extraordinary ability to manipulate sounds, presented a multi -layered program. This stretched over different formats: solo on the piano, duo with Marco Collonna on the bass clarinet and in sextet, the other talented musicians such as Sakina Abdou (saxophone) and Stephen Davis (drums). Together they created a mixture of composed structures and improvisational elements. For jazz fans this was a festival of the senses.

a rounded experience

Although the concert was originally announced for July 16, the Kulturforum Villach invites you to an unforgettable “Jazz stronghold” experience. The event not only offered musical enjoyment, but also the opportunity to exchange ideas with other jazz lovers and to enjoy the sounds in a pleasant atmosphere. The ticket prices were affordable: in advance they cost 50 euros and 55 euros at the box office. There were special discounts for pupils and students.

Hawkins' musical compositions were not only "nature" and "prepared", but also offered contrasts between melodious, harmonious and fearful, bubbling tones that created a fascinating acoustic dialogue. Many guests experienced moments that reminded them of contemporary sounds, while they were also enjoying a fleeting impression of the Boogie Woogie. So Hawkins, in a playful way, were able to encourage the audience to think.

but how does jazz in the region stay alive?

In general, Villach is a stronghold for music and culture. Jazz has conquered a permanent place in this region, partly inspired by the concept of the jazz club restaurants that came from the USA. In an atmosphere in which good food and musical performances meet, there are often unexpected encounters and conversations (here the La Salle de Musique described quite well, how jazz and gastronomy harmonize).

This is also supported by the Jazz Club and the Kulturforum in Villach, where the combination of high-quality cuisine and excellent music is offered. A visit to one of the jazz clubs in the region is often seen as a way to end the evening relaxed or even use it for an informal business discussion. The versatile attraction of jazz addresses young and old alike, which makes the events in Villach particularly alive.

shown in the sum of Hawkins ’appearance and the dynamic cultural scene, germinates in Villach a promising, musical product that shines far beyond the city limits. When is the next occasion in which a presence like Hawkins can be heard in the Bambergsaal? That remains to be seen, because there is definitely more to discover!
