Spittal Ultras: New ball hockey team is fighting for promotion!
Spittal an der Drau, Österreich - In Spittal, the fascinating thing about sport is often found in the small clubs. Since last year, the Spittal Ultras not only have been playing in ice hockey, but also founded their own ball hockey team. These new athletes drive around in the league of the Austrian Ball Hockey Association (ÖBHV), where Ball hockey in Carinthia experiences a true Renaissance through the cooperation of the ÖBHV with the Carinthian ice hockey association. The goal is to make ball hockey better known and especially to inspire young players. Captain Florian Hoffelner emphasizes that many of the players had hardly any experience in ball hockey before, but the motivation is great and the passion is obvious.
The team trains diligently twice a week and now consists of over 30 players. Under the direction of coach Roland Schurian and chairman Franz-Josef Bürger, a lot has been made for the current season. Reinforcement came from the Hornets Spittal, Paternion and also from professionals from the ICE Hockey League. The team is currently fighting in a league that consists of five teams from Carinthia and plays from April to July. Despite modest performance in the season so far, the Ultras are at the end of the table, but strive to reach the semi -finals.
Detailed insights into ball hockey
Ball hockey, which is played 5 against 5, has similar rules as ice hockey, but on dry soil and with a hard plastic ball. It is considered an inexpensive and sensible addition to ice hockey sports. The games can be slower, but still require precise moves and strategic thinking. On June 25th at 7:30 p.m., the next home game of the Ultras is against the HSC Eagles Poggersdorf, and admission is free - a great opportunity for everyone who wants to trend in ball hockey.
The Ultras have set themselves the goal of achieving the play-offs and thus a better placement. President and founding member Franz-Josef Bürger wants to leave the last season of the fighting team behind and took some measures. A new trainer, Robert Steinwer, who previously worked for the VSV youngsters, as well as new players like Manuel Urschitz from the Paternion Tigers and Andreas Brugger and Niklas Schmied, both of whom come from Field/See, now enrich the squad. The team was also able to regain long -term injuries, which raised the squad strength in about four and a half lines.
A look into the future
already two test games against Arnoldstein and the Carinthian Team have been carried out and the coming season will open on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with the game against Ferlach II. Citizens are optimistic about the new Carinthian division 2 Mitte and is proud that the Ultras were able to win the national championship title in the U14 last season. The young section under Jörg Hiranter offers teams in all age groups, from “Learn to Play” to the Bundesliga-U15, and enables children to take part in the odd Bundesliga year. This season the Ultras even present a U13 and U15 at the federal level.
Franz-Josef Bürger would like to thank all volunteers, sponsors and supporters for their support. The Ultras in Spittal are not only an example of regional sport, but also a wonderful sign of community and commitment in the sports landscape of Carinthia. It will be interesting to see how the season will go and what surprises she has.
MeinDzeur reports that the Ultras are currently at the end of the table with the aim of reaching the semi-finals. The Kehv emphasizes that the successor to the fighting team is associated with many positive changes and new faces. So it remains to be seen how these dynamic teams will beat during the season.
