Culture trip to the Adriatic: Seniors explore the former Abbazia!

A group of participants in the Hermagor senior citizens' association recently undertook an exciting cultural trip to the Adriatic coast to explore the beauties of Croatia, Slovenia and Istria. The main town of the trip was the historical Abbazia, today known as Opatija, which has been popular as a climatic health resort since the late 19th century. Located directly on the Kvarner Bay, Opatija was once part of the "Austrian Riviera" and developed through the hotel buildings of the Austrian Südbahngesellschaft into a sought -after goal for those seeking relaxation, such as [Gailtal Journal] (https://gailtal-journal.at/leute/bimen-und-geschichte-senierbund-hermagor-auf- fascinierender-kulturreisen-an-die/) reports.

The participants had the opportunity to visit the city of Rijeka, which served as the most important port of the Hungarian kingdom in the 19th century. During the trip there was also a lecture at the Faculty of Tourism Management at the University of Rijeka in IKA, which addressed the tourist development in the Kvarner region. The historical importance of the city of Rijeka came up as an important traffic junction.

from Istria to Opatija

On the outward journey to the cultural trip, the medieval frescoes in the Romanesque church of Hrastovlje were visited. Lunch took place in the picturesque town of Buzet before the group drove through the north of Istria and along the east coast, where there were wonderful views of the Kvarner Islands. In Opatija itself, tours through the historical center, the old castle settlement TRSAT and the old town of Rijeka took place. The city is known for its idyllic beaches, calm parks and the famous Lungomare promenade, which extends over 12 kilometers and combines numerous sights, as kroati.de

The charming place opatija is often referred to as the "Queen of the Adriatic" and enjoyed great popularity, especially during the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. Here visitors can historical buildings such as the Villa Angiolina, the Kunstpavillon and the SV church. Admire Jakov. The second part of the promenade leads to Lovran, which is also known as the climatic health resort and offers a picturesque old town.

a lasting impression

The return journey led the group via the Slovenian Wippachtal with a stop in Ajdovščina, a former Roman camp before going back to Carinthia via Görz and through the Isonzotal. Prof. Dr. Peter Jordan directed the trip and offered extensive explanations about the culture and history of the region, supported by additional contributions by Nikolina Vasic from the tourism faculty in Ika.

The journey of the Hermagor's journey was not only an opportunity to relax, but also a deeper examination of regional history and culture. This shows once again how important it is to promote such cultural excursions in order to raise awareness of the rich traditions and beautiful landscapes of Central Europe.

The participants were not only able to enjoy the scenic beauties during the trip, but also to the warm hospitality of the region, as described cosmopoetin. Opatija is still appreciated as a popular travel destination today, which spoils its visitors with a unique mix of history, nature and relaxation.
