Neophyten-Ralley in Ossiach: Together against invasive plants!

On July 2, 2025, an exciting short lecture on neophytes in Ossiach took place, which of clear! Ossiacher See Gesztal and the community was organized. The aim of the lecture was to protect the domestic flora and sensitized citizens: inside for the dangers of invasive species. My district reported that a "neophyten-ralley" was carried out after the lecture, in which the glandular jumping herb was removed, a plant spreads in our environment.

Special attention was paid to the glandular jumping cabbage, which originally comes from tempered and tropical regions of Asia. This one -year -old plant can reach heights of 50 to 300 centimeters and forms large stocks - especially along water and in wetlands. It reduces the dominance of domestic flora and is under management requirements. The invasive jumping cabbage has reddish leaf stole and blooms in purple, pink or white from June to October. The State Institute for the Environment describes the characteristics of the plant and warns of confusion with local species. It is important to recognize and combat invasive plants, because they have serious effects on our ecosystem.

active for nature conservation

The participants of the workshop not only learned to identify invasive plants, but also learned how they can actively contribute to nature conservation. By removing such types from the natural habitat, each one can make a valuable contribution. The campaign in Ossiach is an example of how community and commitment to nature can go hand in hand.

The problem of urban heat islands was also addressed in the lecture. These arise because cities act like a large heat storage. Heat -absorbing materials and traffic mean that the temperatures in urban rooms are significantly higher than in the surrounding area. The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes how important shadows and good greening are to alleviate this effect and to make the climate more pleasant in cities. Measures such as planting trees and creating green areas can better adapt to the challenges of climate change.

With the combination of knowledge transfer and active participation, the event in Ossiach shows how nature conservation can be implemented locally and specifically. The next steps? Stay informed and take part in future actions - for a greener and more sustainable future!
