Return transport of the Ukrainian orphans: Burgenland under pressure!

In a critical situation for the 52 Ukrainian orphans and foster children, who have been housed in Burgenland since March 2022, the return to Ukraine is being prepared. The removal, which is planned for the night from Saturday to Sunday, not only encounters organizational challenges, but also on considerable concerns about the security and well-being of children, such as various organizations, including the UN refugee high-commissariat UNHCR. Kurier reports that the return trip is considered necessary, since the custody is responsible for the children to the head of the Ukrainian facility.

The district operator, the Senecura Group, plans to pick up the children with three buses. The transport is to be continued in the early morning hours. The final goal of this trip is Kropiwnitskij, a region that has been increasingly suffering from attacks in the recent past. Pascale Vayer from the "Little Hearts" Association, which looks after the children, expresses itself skeptically about the return transport and indicates that a third of the children have a disability, which continues to complicate the situation.

Preparations for the return trip are in full swing. A meeting with a representative of the Ukrainian embassy is to take place on Saturday to discuss the details of the return transport. In consultation with the responsible authorities, the head of the Ukrainian facility decided that the children should take place, and the state of Burgenland has undertaken to obtain information about the quality, security and circumstances of the home delivery. From the country's point of view, withdrawal of custody is not possible, which underlines responsibilities in the course of this decision.
