Violent attack on law firm in Vienna: employee attacks!

In a worrying incident, a 30-year-old employee of a law firm in Vienna-Wieden was victim of a raid on Friday afternoon. Two men stormed into the offices, pushed the woman into the premises, pulled them on their hair and threatened them with a weapon that was probably a knife or scissors. According to the [Kleine Zeitung] (https://www.kleinezeitung.at/oesterreich/19772543/Raubueberfall-in-Wieneranwaltskanzlei-miTerschlei- Attacken), the robbers stole cash from the safe and initially fleeed, but were still able to be arrested by the police.

The perpetrators, a 29-year-old and a 33-year-old, were in custody a short time later. The police are now examining whether there is a connection between the perpetrators and the law firm's lawyer, as they seem to have been well informed about the conditions of the office. The lawyer was not present at the time of the robbery. The employee, who is in shock, has not yet been interpreted. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Mitte, took over the investigation.

crime in Austria

Statista , around 528,000 crimes were reported this year, with over a third of these offenses being committed in Vienna-around 186,000. The 85,400 thefts that have reached the highest value since the start of the recording are particularly alarming

A large part of the suspects in these crimes are foreigners: around 43% of the suspects came from abroad in 2022. This has led to a widespread perception among the population, with 70% of Austrians believe that immigrants tighten the problem of crime. As part of drug crime, around 35,400 crimes were reported, whereby Vienna is also the focus here, since around 9,960 of the cases took place there.

police enlightenment and trust

The police density varies strongly in Austria: in Burgenland, a police officer comes to 215 inhabitants, while there are 419 in Upper Austria. In addition, a survey from the spring of 2024, 77% of Austrians show confidence in the police. However, the question remains how sustainable this trust is, especially if you look at the increasing numbers in crime statistics.

The concerns of the population are therefore not unfounded. The attack on the law firm in Vienna-Wieden is an urgent example of how everyday life in cities can be overshadowed by such moving. The developments in crime statistics are not just numbers, they have tangible effects on the lives of people on site.
