The police focus: security at the Westbahnhof and in asylum homes!

On Monday, June 2, the police at the Vienna Westbahnhof carried out an extensive focus campaign, which also included checks in nearby asylum homes. The focus was on crime and foreign police aspects. The aim was to check the lawful stay of asylum seekers in basic supply centers and to uncover possible abuse of social benefits. A total of 140 identity assessments were made in this campaign and two foreign laws and four advertisements were recorded. It is particularly noteworthy that no signs of radicalization have been determined, as meinzirk.at reported.

The Westbahnhof has increasingly developed into an envelope for drugs in recent years, which also leads to regularly registered violent arguments. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) was on site and emphasized the strategic planning of the controls. At the 2,192 main activity campaigns in Vienna, a total of 1,198 advertisements were issued for crimes and 198 people were arrested, including 30 minors. During these operations, not only weapons, but also drugs and cash, a total of over 13,000 euros, ensured, such as [Nachrichten.at] (https://www.nachrichten.at/panorama/chronik/schwerpunkt action-der-polen-am-westbahnhof ;art58,4056924) added.

growing problems with addictive substances

Another explosive topic is the increase in addictive offenses in Austria. After the data in 2023, the displayed offenses rose sharply in the field of drugs. In 2023, a total of 35,445 advertisements were recorded - that is 516 more than in the previous year. The increasing number of advertisements against asylum seekers that grew to 1,749 is particularly alarming. This is also reflected in a significant increase in recent years, in which large quantities of drugs have also been ensured, as documented by bmi.gv.at

around the Westbahnhof and in the asylum homes, this drug trafficking literally blooms. Synthetic drugs and cocaine are particularly popular, whereby the import is often done via the Balkan route. The interior minister and the police are faced with the challenge of containing these illegal activities and at the same time ensuring the safety of the population.

The developments around the controls at the Westbahnhof and the increasing crime figures throw a light on a complex problem that requires both coordinated police and social solutions.
