Aggressive 18-year-old comes out as a threat to Viennese police officers!

Lehrbachgasse, 1120 Wien, Österreich - A police operation in Vienna-Meidling recently ended with an aggressive 18-year-old who started on civil servants. On June 4, 2025, 5min reports, the police were alerted in Lehrbachgasse after several calls had been received by the suspect, which was screaming and wildly gesturing. During the identity assessment, the situation escalated, and the man from Gambia hit several times after the officials who finally had to request support to arrest him.

The mission was anything but smooth: two police officers were injured, with one even having to stop his service early in order to be treated. The aggressor denied any statement and was brought to the judiciary after consultation with the public prosecutor. An incident that shows how quickly a simple police operation can turn into violence.

young people are increasingly aggressive

Another incident with young people occurred in Adalbert-Stifter-Straße, where members of a group of four were stopped by the police. These were inappropriate, showed clear combat movements and, despite repeated requests. While the police tried to clarify the situation, there were violent arguments when a 19-year-old from Russia and a 17-year-old aggressive went to the officials. The 19-year-old made massive resistance and finally had to be arrested with special violence. He was also injured and had to go to the hospital to be treated, as reported today.

Such incidents are reminiscent of the discussion about the increasing youth crime, which reached a maximum in Germany in 2024. Statista emphasizes that there are mainly psychological stress by the Corona measures and risk factors among young people seeking protection that are suspected as reasons for this increase. While the number of young suspects have dropped, the male gender remains disproportionately represented: almost three quarters of the suspects under the age of 21 are male.

The increase in willingness to use violence, especially among young people and young adults, is a serious topic. Experts discuss whether tougher sanctions can help in youth criminal law and the reduction in punishment, or whether preventive measures such as social support programs are necessary to direct young people on the right path.

These incidents in Vienna are an alarming sign and urgently demand measures and a social discussion about dealing with youthful aggression. The protection of civil servants and civilians must be in the first place, while at the same time dealing with the causes that lead to such aggressive behaviors. The solution requires a commitment from all of us.
